How to talk to a plumber in Sweden

The trade is rörmokare or VVS. A leak is still a läcka. A blocked drain is stopp i avloppet. Replacing the shared stacks in a building is a stambyte, which is a building project, not a dripping tap.

Who should get the first call

If you rent (hyresrätt) and water is coming through a ceiling or a riser, contact the landlord’s emergency line (jour) first. A mixer tap you broke in your own kitchen is more often your cost, but read the contract before you pay a private invoice. In a bostadsrätt, pipes inside the flat are often yours and the stacks belong to the association. Ask the board which side of the wall is yours before a stambyte quote lands on you.

Words

Message you can send

Hej, jag har en läcka under diskbänken på [adress] i [ort]. Vattnet är avstängt. Kan ni komma och lämna en offert, med arbete och material var för sig? Mvh [namn] [telefon]

On the phone

Say the address, then läcka and whether the water is already shut off (vattnet är avstängt). Ask if the visit is a call-out fee even if you decline the repair. Jour after hours costs more. Send the text if you cannot follow the Swedish.

What this catalogue did not check

F-skatt and the organisation number are the checks behind the list, dated 18 September 2026. Säker Vatten authorisation is not one of them. For a bathroom, also ask whether the waterproofing follows BBV from Byggkeramikrådet. Look Säker Vatten up yourself: sakervatten.se.

For 2026, the Swedish pages on this site — checked against Skatteverket in September 2026 — state that ROT is 30% of the labour cost and RUT is 50% of the labour cost. The two share a cap of 75,000 kronor per person per year, and ROT can be at most 50,000 kronor of that cap. Materials and travel are not included. Confirm the current figures at Skatteverket before you rely on them. A dripping tap can fall under ROT when Skatteverket counts it as repair of the home. A stambyte is a different size of job. Ask for labour and materials on separate lines.
